I’m not an early riser, so I miss 50% of the great light for photography. On occasion, circumstances force me out into the world before sunrise. A few years ago I found myself at Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve before dawn. Lacking a flashlight, I stumbled along the dark paths as far as I could go – perhaps a mile. As the sun rose, I caught a few nice shots, but I was cold and tired and grumpy, and the light was changing fast, so I called it a morning and headed back to the car.
I’m glad I didn’t pack all the gear before walking back, because this guy was admiring himself (or asking deep questions related to being) about 100 feet from my car. It was the best image of the day.
